He was senior police magistrate from 1877 to 1923. Denison's views on military matters were widely respected and his books were translated into Russian and Germany. The British army did not adopt these ideas until their worth was demonstrated by the disasters brought about during the South African War by blind adherence to older methods. (Story p209).
