First published in 1576, in French, the book went through several editions in the author's lifetime and he translated the Latin edition himself in 1586. "Republique" was studied in England in the Latin translation and has the approbation of "Anglia Regina". An early edition of a seminal philosophical work the first modern attempt to construct a system of political science and known to greatly influence Hobbes, Locke and Grotius.
