Longford, the son of a Church of Ireland clergyman who supplemented his income by farming. Early in his childhood the family moved to Lissoy, near Ballymahon, Co. Westmeath where he was educated locally before being sent to school at Athlone. He entered TCD in 1744. Item #12406
