Has a great deal of interest tothe chemist as it discusses hermetic medicine minerals and metals andtheir properties, etc. Simpson was an admirer of "Paracelsus". He wasthe first to recognize the presence of sulphur', or hydrogen sulphide,in Harrogate water. Simpson mixed sulphur and nitre and was convincedthat mineral waters, hot springs, volcanoes, earthquakes, meteor and eventhe occasional luminosity of the sea were all due to a mixture of thesesbodies with water or vapour. - Cf.
