He became literary editor of the Montreal "Gazette' in 1870 and was a charter member of the Royal Society of Canada. In this off print, he writes of the influences of the Basque fishermen on Labrador and Newfoundland in the sixteenth century. In an Appendix, Reade gives comparative specimens of the Basque, Iroquois and Algonquin languages using a Biblical passage. Item #32754
