(ids) A very detailed Report, from the Office of Public Works, Dublin to Treasury Chambers, Whitehall, London, dealing with recommended engineering improvements, with financial estimates, in the River Shannon. The Shannon Commission was under the Chairmanship of John Fox Burgoyne of the Royal Engineers who was Chairman of the Board of Public Works for Ireland from1831 to 1846. ". we caused distinct and detailed Plans to be prepared of the Lands, Houses, Premises, Mills, and Eel Weirs that must be taken,removed, and interfered with, during the progress of the works". Theseventy-five lithographic plates, prepared by Standidge & Co. Litho,London, show the Shannon "from the mouth of the River up to Tarmonbarry,the point where the Royal Canal enters the Shannon."
