Richard Allestree (1619 1681), an ardent Royalist during the English Civil War, was appointed chaplain to King Charles II in 1663. In his preface, Bent states: "The Old Whole Duty of Man" was first published under the occupation of Oliver Cromwell, who had subverted the constitution both in church and state." Item #35189
