(tr) Letters, convict conduct records, and depositions made beforemagistrates relating to the period when Van Dieman's Land was theprincipal penal colony in what is now Australia. Sir John Franklin wasthe Lieutenant-Governor of the Colony from 1837-1843 and one interestingletter is by Lady Franklin entitled "Catching Snakes". Van Diemen's Landwas renamed Tasmania in 1856.
