(cgc) Construction commenced on the Black River Canal ten years after this Petition and was completed in 1855 in its entire length - 35 miles with 109 locks. It opened up the County of St. Lawrence of northern New York State for trade and was functional to the 1920's but declared an abandoned waterway in 1925. Item #37201
