Hardcover. 16mo. 16cm, second edition, xxxvi,302p., frontis engraving, in contemporary hard full mottled black calf, gilt decorations and wide borders and gilt decorations in the panels, gilt titles, wide gilt decorated borders on the boards including a blind decorated inner border , gilt inner dentelles, some foxing on the frontis, general internal slight foxing, a very good to fine copy in attractively contemporary binding, (ho2.2) ~ Although anonymous, the author's background is hinted at by an enclosed 1839 ticket from the Wesleyan Methodist Society. An early Christian nineteenth century religious text in fine leather binding. First published 1811 this second edition having added notes. A final essay is entitled "The Absurdity of Indifference to Religion". The frontispiece, a copper engraving, is of a praying woman by Thomas Stothard, "Hail Sacred Contemplation." Item #38355
