Hardcover. 4to, (in4's), 18.7x 13.8cm, 150p., 4 title pages, in full early calf, blind ruled borders and quarter panel on the boards, covers worn and detached, top half inch and bottom inch and half of the spine panel are wanting, spine mainly loose, boards are loose, sewing cracked at pp72/73, as issued, without front and rear paste down endpapers typical the period, the text is mainly sound and relative clean () ~ Six sermons given by the Bishop of Ely, Benjamin Laney (1591-1675), who also was the chaplain to both King Charles I and II. The sermons were given before King Charles II and were reprinted by royal command. A staunch royalist during the Civil War, the Bishop refers to "these Unquiet Distemper'd Times". He is best remembered for his sermons. Item #38766
