Miller 30. Tate Adams made this sequence of wood engravings in Ireland during a visit and, at the same, made the first experimental four-colour linocuts which led to our edition of Riders of Sea, eleven years later. Tate Adams (1922-2018), Australian artist. 'Soul Cages' was his first published volume of engravings; he was to establish the print department at the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology in 1960, and set up his own Lyre Bird press in 1977. In 2009 he was named a Member of the Order of Australia for 'service to publishing and to the arts, particularly through contributions to the development of printmaking in Australia'. Item #40212
