Hardcover. 24mo, 15cm, 224p., with 100 text engravings, with a hand coloured engraved portrait of Lord Brougham laid down on the front paste down endpaper (perhaps by the former owner), contemporary quarter leather backed green paper over boards, spine worn, chipped on the bottom corner, spine title fading, wear on the boards & edges, some light scattered foxing, Association Copy as described below in faint pencil, on the front free fly, a good to very good copy, unique thus. (sgc) A book intended for juveniles by American author, Samuel Griswold Goodrich (1793-1860). An interesting Ottawa association copy signed by Charles Billings (1839) son of Braddish and Elmira Dow Billings original settlers in Gloucester Township, Upper Canada. Charles, in turn, presented the book to his son, Hugh Braddish Billings in 1873. The Billings Estate is now one of the premier historical sites in the City of Ottawa. Item #40312
