Much of the work covers the history of Louisiana, and contains discussions of many Indian tribes, with the vocabularies of the Sioux and Chippewa. Not only does the author list more than one hundred tribes situated between the St. Lawrence and the Gulf of Mexico, he also describes seventeen tribes living along the Mississippi, Arkansas and Red rivers.
