Goad Atlases: These massive atlases were prepared by English civil engineer, Charles E. Goad who specialized in preparing large scale fire insurance maps. Originally rented to fire insurance companies, the atlases were sold to the Underwriter's Survey Bureau Limited in the 1920's. (This copy has the Company bookplate). The plans are large-scale and with information regarding access to water, building approaches, travel routes designed for fire departments. Goad's insurance atlases were only printed for the use of fire insurance companies, hence rarely come up for sale to the public.
