~ Beebe, American ornithologist, explorer and author, was curator, of ornithology and then director of the department of tropical research at the New York Zoological Society. He made several expeditions to Central and South America, the Orient and the West Indies; this voyage was undertaken from New York to the Sargossa Sea, Cocos, and the Galapagos, and was the ninth expedition of the Zoological Society. "My object in this volume" is "a scientifically accurate popular presentation of high lights and vivid experiences of the expedition." An important and interesting book.
