Duncan account of his travels took him to New York, Boston, Montreal, Quebec, Albany, Buffalo, Niagara, Niagara Town, Lake Ontario, St. Lawrence, Lake Champlain, New Haven, Yale College, Princeton, Philadelphia, Baltimore, Washington, Alexandria, Mount Vernon, River Hudson. The account is of particular interest because of the emphasis he placed on the "moral condition of the inhabitants, their literary and religious characteristics" (preface), an aspect often overlooked in such accounts. ... "in spite of his suspicions of popery, he was generally pleased with the degree to which Canadians had rid themselves of feudal attitudes so prevalent in Great Britain". (Story).
