“A Journey Through England and Scotland to the Hebrides in 1784”. It is a famous scientific travelogue written by the French geologist and traveler Barthélemy Faujas de Saint-Fond. Originally published in France in 1797 under the title Voyage en Angleterre, en Écosse et aux Îles Hébrides, the work documents Faujas' travels through Britain during the late 18th century. His primary scientific motivation was to personally investigate the striking basalt formations on the Hebridean island of Staffa, which had gained international fame after being described by Sir Joseph Banks. The narrative is widely celebrated not just for its geological value, but as an intelligent, racy, and vivid social portrait of 1780s Britain.
