An early nineteenth century notebook with steel engraved scenes by American artists interleaved with blank leaves. Occasional entries include hand-written poetry dated between l831 & 1832 by anonymous poets (some signed "D.L.K."). The engravings are by prominent American landscape artists: W.G. Wall, (New York City, Ticonderoga). T. Doughty (Delaware Water Gap, Schuylkill, Passaic Falls, Trenton Falls). Washington Allston ("Moonlight"). Two Italian scenes not credited but known to be engraved by eminent American engraver, Francis Kearny (Lake of Albano, Ischia Y Procida).
Np. c.1830. 12mo, 19x 15cm, over 120 double-sided pages, with 10 vignette type steel engraved illustrations (each 7x 11cm), some hand-written poetic entries, in quarter black shellac cloth, with pieces of the original leather label relayed, a.e.g., cloth boards lightly dust soiled, internally very good (tr.ds). ~ A Canadian association.....
